News Update
I will try to do an aviation news update at least once a week. Here is this weeks. Delta Airlines and United Airlines have begun to talk of a merger. No details have been announced yet. Although Yahoo Business is reporting that a possible scenario is that the two airlines would merge under the United name and current Delta CEO Richard Anderson would head the newly formed company. Delta denies all reports of merger talk. In other airline news Qantas Airlines of Australia will buy up to 188 new aircraft. The planes will mainly be Boeing 737-800s and Airbus A320s.The order will also include the larger Airbus A321.The aircraft will mainly be used for short haul flights to Asia and Australia. The plan also involves Qantas subsidiary Jetstar opening new regional bases in Perth and Darwin, reports News.com.au Some bad news for all you Boeing fans Airbus outsold Boeing at the Dubai Airshow mainly due to a major order of 70 A350s by Emirates. Emirates also bought 11 more A380s, adding to their already large fleet of A380s . Airbus is also having a good day on the corprate side with the first sale of their A380 Flying Palace ( the Executive Version of the A380). Boeing was not to be outdone though, they made a 13.5 Billion dollar deal with Qatar Airways. That deal included 30 of the mid-sized 787 Dreamliner reports Reuters.
